The former nature reserve is part of the FFH area "Upjever and Swamp Moor Dose". The area has been under nature protection since December 22, 1984. On February 1, 2019, the newly designated nature reserve “ Upjever and Swamp Moor Dose ” opened up. Responsible lower nature conservation authorities were the districts of Wittmund and Friesland.
