Death notification from September 25, 1912 in the Laibacher Zeitung

Peter von Radics was born in Adelsberg (now Postojna in Slovenia ) in the Innerkrainer market town as the son of the Imperial and Royal State Official and former First Lieutenant Peter von Radics and his wife Leopoldine Cinder. He went to school in his hometown, then attended the lower grammar school in Ljubljana (today Ljubljana in Slovenia) and, from the fifth grade onwards, the upper grammar school in Graz . It was here that Radics passed his matriculation examination in 1854 and then began studying philosophy at the Karl-Franzens University . At the same time he devoted himself to the study of history and geography . For health reasons he later moved to Vienna , where he continued his education at the local university . However, when the symptoms of his lung disease worsened, he dropped out.

Radics returned to his homeland and from the autumn of 1858 took over teaching history and German as a supplement at the Laibacher Gymnasium . When non-Hungarian university professors were dismissed in Hungary in 1862 and they had to be housed in the Austrian provinces, young teachers who had not yet passed all exams were dismissed from civil service at the end of the school year.

Radics was also affected by this measure. He now worked increasingly as a writer and dealt intensively with the history of the country. During this time he wrote a number of local history articles for the “Mittheilungen” of the historical association for Krain, of which he had been a member since 1855. His two publications also fall into this era: " Herbart VIII. Freiherr zu Auersperg " with a dedication for Anastasius Grün and the manual "Geschichte Krain's", with which he honored his friend Gustav Freiherr von Zois.

From 1863 Radics intensified his journalistic activities and soon he was one of the regular publicists of several Viennese magazines. He later also worked as an editor for the Agramer Zeitung , a newspaper that was primarily published for the German-reading audience in the Croatian capital. On the initiative of the veterinary scientist and politician Janez Bleiweis, a new press product appeared in Ljubljana on January 3, 1865. As the editor in charge, Radics took over the editing of “Triglav” a German-language “magazine for patriotic interests”, which was named after the highest peak in the Julian Alps .

After the outbreak of the Italian War of Independence against Austria in 1866, Radics took part in the fighting as a war correspondent and reported from the headquarters of Archduke Albrecht on the battle of Custozza and the events on the Italian theater of war for several newspapers of the monarchy .
