Suresh Chabria
Suresh Chabria ( Hindi : सुरेश छाबरिया Sureś Chābariyā ; * in the 20th century in India ) is an Indian film scholar and university professor .
Life
Suresh Chabria first taught political science at St. Xavier's College in Bombay . Since 1985 he has been Professor of Film Appreciation and Registrar at the Film and Television Institute of India (FTII) in Pune . He regularly publishes and publishes articles on film history in journals and books in India and abroad. He is particularly interested in Indian silent film , painting, photography and cultural studies. Even after his retirement in 2009, he holds annual courses and workshops on 'Film Appreciation'.
From 1992 to 1998, Chabria was the successor to PK Nair as director of the National Film Archive of India in Pune. Chabria is particularly committed to creating suitable storage space for the film inventory and film conservation. Among other things, he managed to track down a fragment of Baburao Painter's Muraliwala (1927). In 1996, Chabria initiated a German-Indian project to show the German-Indian silent film A Throw of Dice (1929) with music specially written by Pierre Oser .
