Suresh Kumar gained his first international experience in 2010 at the Junior Asian Championships in Hanoi , where he won the gold medal in the 10,000 meter run in 31: 53.68 minutes. He qualified for the Junior World Championships in Moncton , where he finished seventh in 29: 40.07 min. At the Commonwealth Games in New Delhi he reached eleventh place in 29: 49.74 minutes and was eighth at the Asian Games in Guangzhou in 28: 59.98 minutes. The following year he classified himself at the Asian Championships in Kobe in 29: 37.62 min in fifth place over 10,000 meters and finished sixth in the 5000-meter run in 14: 05.64 min. In 2014 he again took part in the Asian Games in Incheon , where he finished fifth over 10,000 meters in 28: 58.22 minutes and ninth over 5000 meters in 13: 42.28 minutes. In 2016 he won the silver medal over 5000 meters at the South Asian Games in Guwahati in 14: 02.70 min and only had to admit defeat to his compatriot Man Singh . He also won the silver medal over 10,000 meters in 29: 20.49 minutes behind his compatriot Thonakal Gopi . Three years later he won the South Asian Games in Kathmandu in 29: 33.61 minutes over 10,000 meters.
In 2019, Kumar became Indian champion in the 10,000-meter run.
