Susanne Teichmanis

Susanne Teichmanis (born March 21, 1968 in Unna ), b. Kindler, formerly Jaschinski, is a German Protestant church lawyer and since 2016 legal senior church councilor of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Oldenburg .

Life

Susanne Teichmanis grew up in Lübbecke , Minden district , and passed her Abitur in 1987 at the Wittekind high school in Lübbecke. Then she first completed a diaconal year at the Von Bodelschwingh Foundation Bethel in Bielefeld . Later she studied law at the Saarland University in Saarbrücken. During her law studies from 1990 to 1994 in Saarbrücken, she was initially a student and, after the first state examination in law, a research assistant with Michael Martinek . She received her doctorate there in 1997 as Martinek's 17th doctoral student. After her legal clerkship from 1996 to 1998 at the Higher Regional Court of Saarbrücken and the second state examination, Teichmanis was initially a lawyer in a southern German commercial law firm until 2002. From 2003 to 2007 she was a judge at the Saarbrücken Regional Court with a focus on private construction law.

Teichmanis was honorary chairwoman of a parish church council and chairwoman of the board of trustees of the monastery Stift zum Heiligengrabe in Brandenburg. She was an elected member of the 12th EKD Synod until March 31, 2016 .

High Councilor

Teichmanis was elected as the successor to Jörg Winter as senior church councilor of the Evangelical Church in Baden in 2007. As a member of the church leadership, she was particularly responsible for the areas of law and auditing. In addition to church legislation and labor law as chairman of the labor law commission, this included, above all, legal advice for church districts and communities as well as supervision of church foundations. Susanne Teichmanis was responsible for training pastors in terms of canon law. In the management of the Karlsruhe Foyer Church and Law, she regularly conceived and designed discussion events for members of the highest federal courts located in Karlsruhe.

Since 2016, Teichmanis has been the senior legal councilor of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Oldenburg and a full-time member of the senior church council and the joint church committee. Teichmanis also represents the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Oldenburg together with the incumbent bishop in the Council of the Confederation of Evangelical Churches in Lower Saxony , which she has been Deputy Chairperson since December 2017.

She is also a member of the church conference of the Evangelical Church in Germany . She is also a member of the labor and service law commission of the Confederation of Protestant Churches in Lower Saxony. Since October 2017 (reconstitution of the commission) she has been alternating chairperson (employer side) of the commission for the current session. With a resolution of September 5, 2018, the EKD Church Conference appointed Teichmanis to the Commissioners' Council against Sexual Abuse and Sexualized Violence in the Church, which includes the Hamburg Bishop Kirsten Fehrs , the Baden Bishop Jochen Cornelius-Bundschuh , the Braunschweig Regional Bishop Christoph Meyns and the Bavarian regional church office leader Nikolaus Blum belong.

Teichmanis successfully converted the cameral budget to double-entry and after a seven-month term in office was able to produce the first budget with an opening balance sheet in the 6th session of the 48th Synod of Ev.-Luth. Present the church in Oldenburg.

Position on church labor law

As chairwoman of the labor and service law commission of the Confederation of Protestant Churches in Lower Saxony, Teichmanis has a differentiated point of view on the so-called "third way" of church labor law. In the radio show "WDR-Lebenszeichen - I work, so I am" from May 1, 2018, she stated that due to the fact that employers and employees in the church are part of the same service community, there are no conflicting interests. This leads to the inadmissibility of industrial action such as lockouts and strikes under canon law. On the other hand, however, she is of the personal opinion that one must take the bigger step towards normal collective agreements with the possibility of industrial action. The third way is not "necessary for salvation".

Personal

Teichmanis is married to the lawyer and church musician Horst Teichmanis and has two children.
