Suspects is a British television series broadcast by Channel 5 . The concept of the television series was developed by Darren Fairhurst, Steve Hughes and Paul Marquess. Five seasons have been shown in the UK so far.

Plot and background

Suspects is set in a London police station. DS Jack Weston, DC Charlie Steele and DI Martha Bellamy investigate murders, missing persons reports, robberies, etc. In the style of a documentary, a crime is solved in every episode. With the second season, the concept of the series changes a little, so a case is not solved in one episode, but extends over several episodes. The actors work without a fixed script. The plot is only roughly described. With the dialogue, their individual actions and reactions, the actors have to improvise during the shooting. This production style should make the series look more real and investigative. The drama is primarily about the investigation. The police officers' private lives are barely dealt with. An episode is shot within two and a half days, which means that there are only about 18 minutes to film a scene. In order to prepare for the shooting, the three main actors took part in an intensive workshop with a former police officer over a period of several weeks. They got to know interview techniques, police thermologies and everyday police work. Darren Fairhurst, Steve Hughes and Paul Marquess came up with the idea for the drama. Directed by Craig Pickles, John Hardwick and Fiona Walton. Damien Molony , Clare-Hope Ashitey and Fay Ripley starred in the series.
