For the X-series cameras with interchangeable lenses, Fujifilm has designed its own digital camera system with a corresponding lens connection , which is known as the X-bayonet . The back focus is 17.7 mm. Lenses may protrude approx. 7.5 mm into the camera housing . At the bottom there are ten contacts for digital communication between the camera and lens, among other things for controlling the autofocus .

Third party lenses
The table below lists third-party lenses with the Fujifilm X bayonet.
Currently, these are mostly purely manually controlled lenses that do not offer any electronic functions (no autofocus function, no auto / spring shutter, no image stabilization, no EXIF data transmission). Three autofocus lenses from Carl Zeiss have been available for a long time. In 2019, a bright 85 mm autofocus lens from Viltrox was introduced, which does not have an aperture ring. This was followed in April 2020 by a fast 33 mm autofocus lens from the same manufacturer with an aperture ring, and two more Viltrox autofocus lenses are expected in 2020. Three autofocus lenses from Tokina have been announced for autumn 2020 . In an interview on April 14, 2020, Toshihisa Iida, Managing Director of the Optical Device and Electronic Imaging Products division at Fujifilm, announced that the X-bayonet with autofocus function would be released for third-party manufacturers. The Tokina company was named.
Some of the third-party lenses were actually developed for full-format sensors , but the manufacturer provided them with a permanently mounted adapter for the Fujifilm X bayonet. These play i. d. Usually the weight and size advantages of the APS-C format are not taken into account.
All full-format and medium-format lenses can be coupled to the Fujifilm-X bayonet using suitable accessory adapters. In most cases, any existing electronic transmission and control between lens and camera is lost (see section Lens adapter ).

Trivia
At the beginning of the 1980s, Fuji offered 35mm SLR cameras with a connection that was already known as the X-bayonet. Compatible lenses were called X-Fujinon . The old and new X bayonets are not compatible with each other. The old X bayonet illuminates a larger image circle than current Fujinon lenses of the X series. In addition, it does not support autofocus. Using adapters, old X-Fujinon lenses can still be used on modern Fuji cameras.
