The Soochow University (苏州大学, pinyin: Suzhou Daxue ) is a public university with about 50,000 students and 1,600 professors well in Suzhou , Jiangsu , People's Republic of China . The university is a member of Project 211 of the Chinese Ministry of Education.

history

The university was founded in 1900 by Methodists through the union of the Po-hsi Academy of the Kung-hsiang Academy and the Chung-hsi Academy. It was one of the first Chinese universities to offer a master's degree based on the Western model. After several major changes (including the flight of some professors to Taiwan after the Chinese civil war , where they founded the university of the same name, which still exists today ) and the merger of various institutions, Soochow University has existed in its current form since 1982.
