Svatopluk Fučík

Svatopluk Fučík (born October 21, 1944 in Prague ; † May 18, 1979 there ) was a Czech mathematician and university professor .

Career and achievements

After finishing school in Königgrätz ( Hradec Králové in Czech ) Fučík studied in Prague from 1962 to 1967 at the Faculty of Natural Sciences at Charles University , where he received his doctorate in 1969 under the supervision of Jindřich Nečas . There he belonged to the department of analysis until his death . In 1973 he wrote and defended his habilitation thesis and was appointed lecturer in 1977.

Svatopluk Fučík enjoyed an excellent reputation both as a university professor and as a scientist . He made highly regarded achievements, especially in two mathematical areas , namely in the area of nonlinear functional analysis and in the area of differential equations , where he promoted the application of direct methods of the calculus of variations .

As an author or co-author, Svatopluk Fučík wrote more than 50 original scientific papers and five specialist books . The monograph Spectral Analysis of Nonlinear Operators (1973 ), written with the participation of co-authors, and his monograph Solvability of Nonlinear Equations and Boundary Value Problems , which appeared posthumously in 1980, received a lot of attention .
