Sven Benken (born April 20, 1970 in Lauchhammer ) is a former German soccer player .

Sven Benken began his football career in the GDR league in 1989 with the BSG activist Brieske-Senftenberg . In 1991 the club was grouped into the Oberliga Nordost and Benken played here until 1994. In the summer of 1994, he switched to the regional league at Energie Cottbus . In the 1996/97 season he rose to the 2nd Bundesliga with the Lausitzers . In addition, he reached the DFB Cup final against VfB Stuttgart .
After this successful season, Benken moved to the 1st Bundesliga at Werder Bremen . He made his first division debut on the first day of play, in an away game at Karlsruher SC . After he had been on the field in the first four games of the season, he only came to two more missions during the season. In the next season he completed 23 league games. At the end of the season, Benken won the DFB Cup with Bremen. It was used in the first round, in the eighth, quarter and semi-finals.
Shortly after the beginning of the 1999/2000 season , he moved within the league to Hansa Rostock . Benken made 24 season appearances and scored his first Bundesliga goal on matchday 17 with a 1-0 final score over FC Schalke 04 . In the following season he came on 22 missions and scored another goal. In the 2001/02 season he was only used ten times.
Afterwards, Benken was without a club for a year before signing with Dresdner SC in the summer of 2003 . He stayed here for a year. In 2004 he finally moved to the Brandenburg State League for SG Blau-Gelb Laubsdorf , with which he was promoted to the Brandenburgliga in the first year . In the 2006/07 season he played 25 times for the Südbrandenburger and was in their squad until 2009.
He currently plays in the old league team (over 35) of SG Sielow and has become two district champions with the team.

Sven Benken has been running a soccer school in Cottbus since September 2003 . In February 2005 he acquired the Trainer A license.
