Sven Birch (* 1960 in Denmark ) is a Danish pianist and conductor .

life and career

He received his pianistic training in Aarhus from Aino Gliemann, where he completed his studies with a soloist diploma (concert exam). Many scholarships made it possible to continue studying with Alexander Jenner in Vienna . He took master classes with well-known pianists such as Tatjana Nicolajewa , Conrad Hansen , John Lill , Leonid Brumberg and Peter Feuchtwanger .

Birch is a sought-after musician with a large repertoire from Bach to contemporary music. He works as a soloist, chamber musician , accompanist and conductor. Concert tours have taken him through Europe and to Brazil , Japan and the USA .

Sven Birch has been teaching piano at the Bruckner University in Linz since 1992 and is the director of the Institute for Keyboard Instruments. He also taught at the Royal University of Music in Copenhagen from 1990 to 1992 and at the Mozarteum in Salzburg from 1999 to 2004 . Birch is a member of 'George Crumb-Trio' Linz and of 'Ensemble Nord' Copenhagen .

He is also the composer and publisher of a series of educational piano music for 'Universal Edition' Vienna and the Zimmermann publishing house in Frankfurt am Main . An important place is occupied with jazz and improvisation , as well as contemporary music. Birch has premiered a large number of solo, chamber music, and orchestral works. Special mention should be made of the successful collaboration with the composer Rudolf Jungwirth .

Birch mainly composes solo and chamber music works - especially in the area of ​​graphic notation. He trained as a conductor at GMD Janos Fürst and was his assistant at 'Aalborg Symfoniorkester' (DK). Birch leads countless concerts and projects and is the conductor and artistic director of the chamber orchestra 'Danube 2135'.

A strong affinity for the orchestra can also be seen in many tasks as an instrumentator. Adaptations of works by Debussy have been published by Peters Verlag. An arrangement of the opera “Pussycat” by Peter Androsch was premiered at the Bruckner Festival 2007 by the Bruckner Orchestra Linz . A large project with instrumentations of chorale preludes and cantatas by JS Bach took place in 2009.
