The Sweepstakes was a Canadian schooner . The ship was built in 1867 and sailed the Great Lakes as a merchant ship . In August 1895 it ran aground in the Huron Sea off Cove Island and was towed into the "Big Tub Harbor" near Tobermory . It sank there in September 1895. Today the wreckage of the sweepstakes lies in part of the Fathom Five National Marine Park (position 45 ° 15 ′ 19 ″  N , 81 ° 40 ′ 50 ″  W Coordinates: 45 ° 15 ′ 19 ″  N , 81 ° 40 ′ 50 ″  W ). Because of the almost completely preserved hull , it is a popular destination for divers.
