history
Farewell party of Viktor Röthlin (2014)
The first edition of the Switzerland Marathon light, which took place on September 7, 2014, was also Viktor Röthlin's farewell party from top-class sport. Shortly before, he was still running the marathon at the 2014 European Athletics Championships in Zurich. After the runs there was a ceremony in honor of the 2010 European marathon champion, which ended with a concert by “ Stiller Has ”.
Fastest half marathon in Switzerland
Edwin Koech from Kenya ran around the Sarnersee on September 6, 2015 in 59:54 minutes. The Switzerland Marathon light thus has the fastest half marathon route in Switzerland. In 2015, the Switzerland Marathon light was ranked 8th among the fastest half marathons worldwide.
Viktor Röthlin's class duel
There are no official junior categories at the Switzerland Marathon light. All first to sixth graders from all over Switzerland are invited to «Viktor Röthlin's class duel». Until 2016, the class duel was limited to the seven municipalities of the canton of Obwalden and the neighboring Nidwalden municipality of Ennetmoos (Röthlin's place of residence).
Participation is free for all children thanks to sponsorship contributions.
Each school level corresponds to a category, all first graders, all second graders etc. in a community compete against each other. The length of the route is 700 m for first to third graders and 1,100 m for fourth to sixth graders.
There is no individual ranking list, but only a ranking list for each school level of each participating school community (previously also each participating class of each community). On the one hand, the average times of all participating students are decisive for this ranking list. In addition, it also takes into account how many students participated in relation to the maximum number of students at the relevant school level in each municipality.
With “Viktor Röthlin's class duel”, Röthlin pursues his concern to motivate schoolchildren to exercise.
