Sylvester Donovan Ryan
Sylvester Donovan Ryan (born September 3, 1930 in Avalon ) is Old Bishop of Monterey in California .
Life
The Archbishop of Los Angeles , James Francis Aloysius Cardinal McIntyre , ordained him on May 3, 1957 as a priest of the Archdiocese of Los Angeles.
Pope John Paul II appointed him auxiliary bishop in Los Angeles and titular bishop of Remesiana on February 17, 1990 . The Archbishop of Los Angeles, Roger Michael Mahony , donated him episcopal ordination on May 31 of the same year ; Co-consecrators were John James Ward , Auxiliary Bishop in Los Angeles, and George Patrick Ziemann , Auxiliary Bishop in Los Angeles.
He was named Bishop of Monterey, California , on January 28, 1992, and inducted into the office on March 19 of the same year.
On December 19, 2006, Pope Benedict XVI. his age-related retirement.
