Richard John Garcia
Richard John Garcia (born April 24, 1947 in San Francisco , California - † July 11, 2018 ) was an American clergyman and Roman Catholic Bishop of Monterey, California .
Life
Richard John Garcia, son of Mexican immigrants, studied philosophy and theology at St. Patrick's Seminary in Menlo Park and was ordained a priest on May 13, 1973 . He served in pastoral care in San José , California . From 1980 to 1984 he completed a doctorate at the Angelicum in Rome. From 1985 to 1992 he was a professor at St. Patrick's Seminary.
Pope John Paul II appointed him auxiliary bishop in Sacramento and titular bishop of Bapara on November 25, 1997 . The Bishop of Sacramento, William Keith Weigand , ordained him episcopal on January 28 of the next year ; Co- consecrators were John Raphael Quinn , Archbishop of San Francisco , and Pierre DuMaine , Bishop of San Jose, California .
On December 19, 2006 he was appointed by Pope Benedict XVI. was appointed Bishop of Monterey, California , and inducted into office January 30 of the next year.
