synagogue
The synagogue was built in Planig in 1795. In the middle of the 19th century the number of parishioners had decreased so much that church services could no longer be held. The synagogue was given up around 1900. In 1950 the dilapidated building was demolished. The inner walls of the synagogue were decorated with Hebrew inscriptions.
Jewish community of Planig
The Jewish community in Planig existed as early as the 18th century. The Jewish residents of Bosenheim also belonged to it . The community had a mikveh and a religious school. At times, a separate religion teacher was employed, who also performed the duties of prayer leader and shochet . The deceased were buried in the Jewish cemetery in Planig. From the middle of the 19th century the number of members of the community had decreased so much that church services could no longer be held in Planig. From this point on, the parishioners attended the services in the synagogue in Bad Kreuznach. After the November pogroms in 1938 , the last two remaining Jewish families left Planig. In 1942 a woman who was still living there, although she had since converted, was deported.
