history

The Jewish families in Pohl-Göns, Kirch-Göns , Ebersgöns , Niederkleen , Oberkleen and Espa decided to build a joint synagogue in Pohl-Göns. The synagogue was built in the summer and autumn of 1926 according to plans by the architect Lippert from Butzbach, who also built the synagogue in Butzbach in the same year . On December 3, 1926, the synagogue was opened by the provincial rabbi Dr. Leo Jehuda Hirschfeld (1867–1933) from Gießen inaugurated.

During the November pogrom in 1938 , the synagogue was not set on fire because it was right next to a carpenter's workshop. The synagogue became the property of the neighbor and is still used as a warehouse today.

architecture

The single-storey, massive building made of brick masonry with a curved, steep hipped roof has a floor area of around five by five meters. The room received light through three arched windows on the north side and two windows on the south side. The entrance is on the south side. The Torah shrine was in a niche on the east wall. The synagogue had 27 male and 20 female seats.
