The synagogue in Winnweiler , a local community in the Donnersbergkreis in Rhineland-Palatinate , was built in 1900/01. The former synagogue was on Synagogengasse, today Gymnasiumstraße.

history

Since 1888 the Jewish community of Winnweiler planned to build a synagogue. The previous prayer room was closed in 1899 because it was dilapidated. In 1899 a plot of land was acquired in Stockbornstrasse, which was named Synagogengasse after 1901. In August 1900 the foundation stone was laid for the new synagogue, which was built according to plans by the architect Ludwig Levy . The construction was carried out under the Kaiserslautern architect Peter Seeberger . On 28/29 June 1901 the inauguration took place.

During the November pogrom in 1938 , the synagogue was set on fire by SA men. The ruins were blown up a little later by the Wehrmacht. The property was sold to the municipality of Winnweiler in December 1939.

In November 1984 a memorial plaque was placed on the synagogue site, which is now a parking lot .
