Syngonanthus chrysanthus is a species of plant inthe Eriocaulaceae family . The'Mikado' variety isknown as an ornamental plant . The species is native to Brazil and Uruguay .
description
Syngonanthus chrysanthus grows as an evergreen, perennial herbaceous plant . The stem is very short. The leaves stand upright like a lawn, spread out on the ground. The leaf blades, which are 2 to 5.5 centimeters long and about 1 millimeter wide in the middle, are flat, very short and slightly hairy and, when dry, more or less olive-green in color.
The rarely individual, usually many inflorescence shafts are firm, five to six ribs and 12 to 25 centimeters high. The olive-colored, short-haired leaf sheaths are incised, ribbed and 3 to 4.5 centimeters long. The hemispherical, head-shaped inflorescence is hard and hairless, brownish-yellow at the end and 5 to 7 millimeters wide.
distribution
The distribution area includes the Brazilian states of Paraná , Rio Grande do Sul and Santa Catarina , as well as in Uruguay the departments Canelones , Maldonado and Montevideo .
Systematics
The first description was made of this kind in 1831 by Gustav Heinrich von Bongard under the name Eriocaulon chrysanthum . In 1903 Wilhelm Otto Eugen Ruhland then placed the species in the genus Syngonanthus .
