Szegedi AK was a Hungarian football club from Szeged . He played a total of 23 years in the first Hungarian league, the Nemzeti Bajnokság . In 1921 and 1922 he was able to win the Hungarian championship of the clubs outside Budapest.

history

The Szegedi Atlétikai Klub ( German  Athletics Club of Szeged ) was founded in 1899. In the 1908/09 season he took part for the first time in the championship of the clubs outside Budapest and finished second in the group south behind Bácska Szabadkai AC . In the following years, too, the club failed to qualify for the group winners' finals. In the season 1920/21 SzAK won his group for the first time and was able to get the title of landmaster for the first time in the subsequent final round. This success could be repeated in the following season . In the years that followed, the club mostly qualified for the finals, but could not build on these successes.

When the Hungarian professional league was founded in 1926, the SzAK provided a professional team under the name Bástya FC ( German  Bastion ) . This initially fought to stay in the league and achieved their best result with a fifth place in the 1928/29 season . At the end of the 1930/31 season he had to relegate after losing to Attila FC Miskolc in the relegation games . In the second division he started a fresh start under the new name Szeged Football Club and immediately returned to the House of Lords when he was able to prevail in the relegation games against Vasas Budapest . There the club first established itself in the midfield. The 1934/35 season he was able to finish in fourth place and thereby qualified for the Mitropapokal in 1935 , defeated there in the first round Slavia Prague . After that, the club could not repeat this. After a few years in midfield, he finished the 1939/40 season again in fourth place. A year later he achieved the best placement in the club's history with a third place. Previously it had again taken on its original name Szegedi AK .

At the end of the 1942/43 season , the SzAK had to descend from the Nemzeti Bajnokság. The immediately achieved resurgence could only be perceived in the 1945/46 season due to the Second World War . At the end of the 1948/49 season , the club rose again. He merged with the local rival Szegedi MTE to form Szegedi Szakszervezeti Munkás Torna Egylet ( German gymnastics club of trade union workers from Szeged ). In 1950 he returned to the first division. After relegation in the transition season, the name was changed to Szegedi Petőfi SK . The descent in 1951 marked the last year of the first division membership. The direct resurgence was missed. In 1954, the club was relegated from the second division. From 1957 he found himself only in the fourth class after he had previously taken his old name Szegedi AK again. In the years that followed, the SzAK did not manage to push back into higher leagues. In 1976 he joined the city rivals and first division club Szegedi EOL and thus disbanded.
