T-Bone (also: Tbone , Thai ที โบ น ) is one of the most famous Thai ska and reggae bands .

history

T-Bone was founded by fellow students in 1982. Nakarin Teerapenun, the brother of the front man Jesada, joined the band later and, when asked about the band name, spontaneously gave the band the name of his brother's jeans brand.

At the beginning the band played mainly cover versions of Bob Marley in clubs and bars , whose music was also known to many locals. Mostly western tourists who knew Bob Marley's songs came to the concerts. For many years, T-Bone was the only band that also played ska music. The Thai ska scene developed later.

In 1992 the band got a record deal with the Thai label Muzer and released the first album Thon Hen Tong Fah Nun Mai? (something like: "Have you ever seen the sky?"). With the title song of the same name, which was also played on the radio and entered the national charts, the band first became famous. However, neither the text nor the sheet music for the pop song came from the band's own pen. The studio album produced by Muzer in 1993 and the live album released there in 1994 also had little to do with Jamaican reggae. T-Bone brought reggae to Thailand in the 1980s, but enjoyed less influence among local Rastafarians than Job Bunjob and his band Job 2 Do due to the detour into pop music in the 1990s .

T-Bone has been on stage with INXS , UB40 , Tokyo Ska Paradise Orchestra , The Skatalites , Ska Cubano , Little Roy , Winston Francis , Prince Fatty and The Beat . On the recommendation of The Beat, T-Bone was the first Thai music formation to perform at the Glastonbury Festival (2005 and 2007), at a WOMAD festival (2007) and at the international ska and reggae event The Smiley Fest (2009).

All band members play part-time.
