Job 2 Thu

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Job 2 Do is a Thai reggae live band from the Trang province , southern Thailand , around the singer Job Bunjob. The band mainly performs at domestic reggae and ska festivals and has been the best-known Thai reggae band not only among locals but also among tourists since the song Doo Ter Tam (Doo Doo Doo) from the album No War (2005). The band sparked a downright reggae movement across the country.

Job Bunjob and Job 2 Thu

Job Bunjob ( Thai จ๊ อบ บรรจบ , actually Banjob Polin , บรรจบ พล อินทร์ ; born December 16, 1958 in Amphoe Mueang Trang ) is the singer and front man of the band. He also plays guitar , mandolin , pong lang and harmonica himself .

Job was born the son of a rubber farmer. At the age of 15 he went to school in Bangkok , and at the age of 18 he started a job in a bowling alley. With his first savings he bought a guitar, learned to play the guitar himself and performed in Bangkok bars and clubs. After graduating, he decided to devote himself entirely to music. At a concert in Songkhla in October 1983, he fell in love with the Englishwoman Dorothy "Dorra" Lemanczyk. It was through her that he became familiar with the music of Bob Dylan , Bob Marley , Peter Tosh , The Rolling Stones , Eric Clapton and the like. From then on she accompanied him singing on stage.

In 1985 they both went to Newcastle upon Tyne , England , where their first son was born. Here, too, Job initially played in bars and clubs, but couldn't get used to the fact that the music style was imposed on him there. He therefore decided to make a living as a street musician in northern England and Scotland . He regularly donated ten percent of his income to Oxfam . The mayor of Aberdeen even presented him with an award for the “best street musician” in town. His first recording took place at a music competition in Glasgow , Scotland , in 1995 : Free Love as a contribution to the sampler The Devil . One official and five cover albums with the titles On the Job (I – III) and Job on the street (I / II) were produced in-house.

In 2000, now the father of three children, Bunjob went back to Thailand with his family. In December 2004 he lost his sister and brother on Ko Phi Phi in the tsunami , which is discussed in some songs of Job 2 Do.

Job 2 Do, pronounced job to do , was founded after Jobs returned to his home country. The idea for the band name came about when his wife handed him a list of things to do. The lyrics deal with serious and critical issues. The repertoire includes original compositions as well as cover versions of well-known music titles. Job 2 Do's reggae differs from the classic Jamaican (e.g. from its model Bob Marley) through the use of traditional Thai instrumental elements and texts in southern Thai, Bunjob's home idiom. Bunjob initially appeared mainly in the tourist areas on the southern coast of Thailand, i.e. Phuket , Ko Pha-ngan , Ko Samui or Ko Phi Phi .

In 2000, he signed a contract with GMM Grammy , one of the great music and entertainment companies in Thailand, and the album published job 2 do . In the following year he was honored with the GMM Grammy Award as "best new artist" and, as a Thai newcomer in 2000, he received the Season Award from Season Magazine, the most important Thai pop music award . Job 2 Do was very different from the Thai pop music usually published at GMM Grammy and its mainstream stars. The album was not as successful as expected and GMM Grammy canceled the contract with Bunjob. Since then, he has not publicly mentioned or spoken about the album. He preferred to perform at reggae live festivals and in clubs and refused to sign further contracts with well-known labels. Even without a major label in the background, Bunjob released several live albums on independent, local labels in southern Thailand. Most releases are now distributed under the Here Music label .

In 2004 he wrote a title for a UNESCO documentary about the Moken in the Andaman Sea . In 2006, Bunjob performed as the main actor on the main stage at the first Pai Reggae Festival in Mae Hong Son, which attracted around 70,000 spectators. In 2006/2007 he produced the titles Luem Mi Long Sauy Lak Sai and Dae Kon Chang Fun for Pen-Ek Ratanaruang's strip Ploy , which differed significantly from the other titles in the film (in particular due to the use of a non-central Thai dialect) and made them famous in the Thai pop music scene and as the "father of the Thai Rasta and Reggae". In 2009, The Guitar Magazine of Thailand named the band in a special about reggae and ska as one of the bands that incorporated elements of Thai folk music in their reggae songs.

Doo Ter Tam (Doo Doo Doo) (O: Thai ดู เธอ ทำ ) gained national notoriety through its use in television commercials for an alleged health drink and was the country's summer hit in 2008 . The track has been covered or remixed several times. For example, in 2008 the Thai girl group Girly Berry (เกิ ร์ ล ลี่ เบอร์ รี่) brought out Stop me Babe! a hip-hop dance version.

Unforgettable (O: ลืม ไม่ ลง) was the theme song for the 2007 horror flick Sick Nurses (Suay Laak Sai), produced by Prachya Pinkaew .
