T1 (formerly: SK Telecom T1) is an esports team owned by T1 Entertainment & Sports, a joint venture between SK Telecom and Comcast Spectator. It is a record world champion in League of Legends .

history

At the end of 2003, SK Telecom signed the StarCraft Team Orion (previously 4U) led by Lim Yo-hwan and thus founded Team First . Lim Yo-hwan took on the role of team captain. SK Telecom T1 is part of SK Sports, which also includes baseball team SK Wyverns from Incheon , basketball team SK Knights from Seoul and Olympic champion Park Tae-hwan . The team is also of sportswear manufacturer New Balance , the maker of memory products Eating Core (brand KLEVV occurring) and the beverage producers alliance between the two pharmaceutical companies Dong-A and Otsuka supported.

The organization has also been active in League of Legends since 2012 and won the Riot World Championships in 2013, 2015 and 2016, which are endowed with one million dollars . At the 2017 World Cup, SKT T1 reached the final but lost 3-0 to Samsung Galaxy. While SKT T1 failed to qualify for the World Cup in their own country in 2018, it returned to strength in 2019. The team reached the semi-finals of the 2019 World Championships, but had to admit defeat to the European G2 Esports , as they did at the Mid-Season Invitational that same year .

At the end of 2016, the Proleague in StarCraft 2 was discontinued and the StarCraft team from SK Telecom T1 was also dissolved.

In February 2019 it was announced that SK Telecom would be renamed T1, but this season, including the League of Legends World Championship, they still played under the previous name. As of November 2019, CEO Joe Marsh began officially referring to the team as T1. The name change was based on the foundation of T1 Entertainment & Sports , a joint venture between SK Telecom and Comcast Spectacor .
