Transportes Aéreos del Mercosur SA is a Paraguayan airline that operates as LATAM Airlines Paraguay . It is a subsidiary of the LATAM Airlines Group , which was created in 2012 from the merger of the Chilean airline LAN Airlines with the Brazilian TAM Linhas Aéreas .
history
The origin of the airline is the formerly state-owned Lineas Aéreas Paraguayas (LAP), which was founded in 1962 and started operating in 1963. It changed its name when the TAM group took over the majority in September 1996.
In 1994, Comandante Rolim, president of the Brazilian TAM, founded the airline ARPA - Trans America Línea Aérea SA in Paraguay. On September 1, 1996, he acquired 80% of the state-owned LAP (Líneas Aéreas Paraguayas). From the merger of ARPA and LAPSA, TAM Mercosur was created , in which the Paraguayan state has a 20% stake. In 2008 the name was changed to TAM Airlines , the company structure remained unchanged.
fleet
As of March 2015, the LATAM Airlines Paraguay fleet consists of five Airbus A320-200s , which are operated by the parent company LATAM Linhas Aéreas .
