The TDK-Micronas GmbH is a developer and manufacturer of semiconductor-based sensor and IC system solutions for automotive and industrial electronics. In 2016 the former Micronas Semiconductor Holding AG was taken over by the Japanese TDK and renamed TDK-Micronas GmbH.

history

In May 1989 the company Crosstec Engineering AG was founded in Switzerland . This was taken over in July 1992 by the Finnish Nokia subsidiary Micronas Oy and then operated under the name Micronas . In 1995 Micronas Semiconductor Holding AG was founded in Zurich and four months later the company was listed on the Swiss stock exchange . In 1997 Micronas took over the ITT subsidiary Intermetall based in Freiburg im Breisgau .

From 2000 on, Micronas Holding AG held 15% of Analog Circuit Technologies (later innoCOMM Wireless ) in San Diego , California , until innoCOMM Wireless was acquired by National Semiconductor in February 2001 . In October of the same year Micronas acquired the Image and Video divisions from Infineon , in April 2003 the Dutch design center from Microtune , in May 2004 LINX Electronics , in December 2005 WISchip International .

In 2007 and 2008, the consumer segment was restructured . Parts of the entertainment electronics division were sold in 2009, the rest closed. In 2010, in addition to its automotive electronics division , Micronas founded the Industrial business area, thereby concentrating on both the automotive and industrial markets. In 2011, after four years of losses , Micronas said it was profitable again.

In December 2015, the Japanese TDK submitted a takeover offer, which was supported by the Micronas board of directors. The takeover for around 214 million francs was completed in March 2016. Subsequently, the shares of Micronas Semiconductor Holding AG were delisted from the Swiss stock exchange and the operational headquarters located in Freiburg im Breisgau were renamed TDK-Micronas GmbH.

The company's operational headquarters and production site are in Freiburg im Breisgau ( Germany ). In March 2017 TDK-Micronas took over the Belgian IC design company ICsense.

TDK-Micronas develops and produces semiconductor products for automotive and industrial applications. These include magnetic field - and current sensors , they work on the Hall effect based and embedded controller for intelligent actuators : Hall - switch , linear Hall sensors , angle sensors and motor controllers.
