In its historical account, TSG refers to the Workers' Gymnastics Association, which was banned by the National Socialists in 1933. After the end of the Second World War , all former sports clubs in the Soviet occupation zone (SBZ) were finally dissolved, sports competitions were initially only allowed to be held by loosely organized sports communities / sports groups (SG) at the local level. Such a sports community was also founded in Bernau. With a soccer team , SG Bernau participated in the Brandenburg state class , which was held for the first time in 1948/49. This was at that time one of the four highest divisions in the SBZ. In their season, the Bernauer were only last among ten teams and had to relegate. In the 1949/50 season, Bernau played in the Brandenburg district class, which was only third class after the East Zone League was founded (later the GDR Oberliga ). On September 5, 1949, the SG Bernau was converted into the central sports community of the state-owned companies in Bernau (short: ZSG of VEB).

After the ZSG had finished the 1949/50 season in eighth place, they moved to the area of the East Berlin Football Association. This had previously withdrawn all East Berlin soccer teams from the entire Berlin leagues and incorporated them into its own league system. In order to be able to reach a sufficient number of teams, sports communities from the Berlin outskirts were included. The ZSG Bernau received a place in the fourth-class district class East Berlin for the 1950/51 season. In the course of the season, the ZSG was converted into a company sports association (BSG) , the sponsoring company of which was the municipal administration. It was subordinated to the central sports association unit and had to adopt the unit name BSG unit. In addition to football, the BSG now maintained the sports sections shuttlecock ( badminton ), handball , bowling , chess , tennis , table tennis and popular sports . Later came gymnastics and wounded Sport added.

The footballers of the BSG unit remained in the Berlin district class until 1954, after which they moved to the area of the district technical committee (BFA) Frankfurt / Oder. There, the BSG succeeded in 1956 (calendar year season) promotion to the Frankfurt District League , which was fourth division after the introduction of the 2nd GDR League . When the district league was to be reduced from two to one season in 1961/62, eleventh place was no longer enough to keep the league in 1960. After two seasons in the Frankfurt district class, the BSG unit Bernau returned to the BFA East Berlin for the 1963/64 season. It was incorporated into the city class, which was the fourth division in the GDR league system after the II. GDR League was discontinued. In 1966, the Bernauer descended into the city class.

In 1967 the BSG unit merged with other Bernau sports communities to form the gymnastics and sports community (TSG) unit Bernau. The footballers remained inferior until 1975. It was not until the 1975/76 season that they reappeared in the Frankfurt district class. In 1981 TSG achieved promotion to the district league, in which they only played for one season. After two more seasons, in 1984 he was relegated from the district class, from which there was no return until the end of the GDR soccer game.

Since 1990

After the political change in 1989/90 and the reunification of Germany, TSG was forced to adapt its structures to the changed legal and economic conditions. The system of company ties between the sports associations had collapsed and sports operations in East Germany were reorganized according to the legal system of the German Civil Code . As a result, the TSG unit was restructured into a registered association . TSG now had to finance itself independently and dissolve all previous sports sections except for the soccer department. After years of under-class football, the change for the better began in 2012 with the promotion of the 1st team to the Barnim League (9th division). In quick succession, he was promoted to the seventh-class Brandenburg state league by 2014. For the 2015/16 season, the TSG unit started with two men's teams and had seven other teams in the junior division.

The season 2015/16 ended the TSG Einheit Bernau ahead of the local rivals FSV Bernau and Union Klosterfelde as the season winner of the Landesliga Nord and thus rose to the Brandenburg League for the first time .
