The table tennis club Rot-Weiß Hamburg (short: TTC Rot-Weiß) was a table tennis club in Hamburg . In the 1950s and 1960s , alongside Hamburger SV, it was the dominant club in this sport in Hamburg.

history

The TTC Rot-Weiß was founded in 1934 by the Hamburg table tennis functionary Peter Jäckel (1903–1993). The club, based in Eppendorfer Martinistraße, saw itself from the beginning as a competitive sports club that wanted to unite the best Hamburg players. After a very short time, it was the most successful table tennis club in Hamburg alongside Hamburger SV . With the establishment of the Oberliga Nord in 1950, he was accepted into this class. Even more successful than the men were the women who became German team champions in 1954 and 1955 with the players Ursula Paulsen , Annegret Thöle , Lieselotte Haase , Paula Traut , Marion Jaedtka , Renate Lehmann , Christa Rehmke and Ursula Peters . When a women's Oberliga Nord was formed in 1959, the TTC Rot-Weiß was one of the founding members. Until the end of the 1960s, the club was able to hold this top position in the Hamburg area, but without getting any further titles at national level. In 1966, the League of Gentlemen and in 1972 the League of Women was formed, the club failed to qualify each. The women even got relegated from the Oberliga Nord for the first time in 1972 and, after top player Ev-Kathleen Zemke moved to local rivals Oberalster VfW , they could never reach this class again. The men continued to play nationally for the time being. In 1975 a game community was formed with TSV Hohenhorst , which took up the game under the name Rot-Weiß Hohenhorst until 1981 . After relegation from the Oberliga in 1977, the promotion to the now Regionalliga Nord, now called the second-highest German division, succeeded again. After the number of members of the TTC Rot-Weiß, which except in the post-war period never did youth work, had rapidly decreased, it dissolved in 1981 in favor of TSV Hohenhorst. This year the syndicate had just qualified for the second Bundesliga.
