Ursula Paulsen
Ursula "Ulla" Paulsen (born June 17, 1935 in Kaltenkirchen ) is a German table tennis player . In 1954 she won the German championship .
National successes
She achieved her first major success in 1951 in Remscheid when she became German youth champion in singles. In 1952 she repeated this success in doubles with Lisa Heitmann (later Lisa Danker). She also won the open English youth championship in doubles (with Hannelore Walz) and in mixed (with Conny Freundorfer ). In 1954 she won the last all-German championship for women in Berlin before 1991. She was twice German mixed champion, in 1955 with Hans Rockmeier and in 1957 with Josef Wenninghoff . In 1954 and 1955 she won the German team championship with TTC Rot-Weiß Hamburg before moving to Hamburger SV in 1956 . Further successes were silver medals at the German championships in women's doubles in 1954 with Annegret Thöle (also TTC Red-White) and bronze medals in women's singles in 1955, 1956 and 1958 and in women's doubles in 1955 and 1956 with Annegret Thöle.
International activities
Between 1954 and 1958 Paulsen had 14 missions in the German national team. At the table tennis world championship in 1954 she finished 13th with the all-German women's team. At this world championship, she was 12:20 in the decisive set in the fight against the Indian Meena Parande. Nevertheless, she was able to win this set and the game.
In 1958 and 1962 she played in the individual competitions at the European Championships.
Career break
Personal and health reasons forced Paulsen to interrupt her career in 1962. In 1972 she made a comeback with some successes at senior championships.

Private
Ulla Paulsen learned to play table tennis from her parents. Her mother was the national champion of Schleswig-Holstein. After her marriage to Gerd Friedrich, the former Vice President of TTV Schleswig-Holstein , her name was Ursula Friedrich . Today ( 2008 ) she lives in Itzehoe.
Because of her hairstyle, she was also called Pigtail Ulla ; this is the translation of the term Pig-tailed Ulla , which the English coined during the English Open 1952 in London.
