Tadeusz Szurman (born July 9, 1954 in Simoradz ( Schimoradz ) near Skoczów ( Skotschau ); † January 30, 2014 in Katowice ) was a Lutheran theologian and since 2002 bishop of the Katowice diocese of the Evangelical Augsburg Church in Poland , based in Katowice .

Life

Tadeusz Szurman was on 19 November 1978 by Bishop Janusz Narzyński in Goleszów ( Golleschau ) to the priest ordained . He then completed the vicariate in Świętochłowice ( Schwientochlowitz ) and was pastor there until 1990.

During this time he was from 1982 to 1986 youth pastor of the diocese of Katowice and from 1984 to 1990 all-Polish pastor for young people. He also headed the Youth Commission of the Polish Ecumenical Council .

From 1989 to 1990 Tadeusz Szurman was the parish administrator in Zabrze and then from 1993 pastor of the Church of the Resurrection in Katowice.

As a diocesan councilor, Szurman was a member of the all-church synod of the Evangelical-Augsburg Church in Poland. During its deliberations in April 1998, the Synod elected him President .

In October 2001, Tadeusz Szurman was elected Bishop of the Katowice Diocese by the Diocesan Synod. As successor to Rudolf Pastucha , he took up this office on Epiphany Day (January 6th) in 2002 and held it until his death. His successor in office was Marian Niemiec .
