Days of New Music Bamberg

The Days of New Music Bamberg is a music festival that takes place every two years in May / June in Bamberg. The festival is supported by the New Music Association in Bamberg eV The festival was founded in 1987 and until 2009 was under the direction of the composer Horst Lohse . Markus Elsner has been Artistic Director since 2011 .

The festival presents current developments in contemporary classical music. Guests were important contemporary composers such as Witold Lutosławski , Manfred Trojahn , Udo Zimmermann and Wilfried Hiller . A program for children and young people was launched under the direction of Markus Elsner, and a "residence" program is at the heart of the concept, with selected artists staying in Bamberg throughout the festival. In 2011 this was the Ukrainian pianist Oleh Rudnytsky ( Lviv ), in 2013 the Chinese-American composer Huang Ruo ( New York City ), in 2015 the Sonar Quartet ( Berlin ) and the composer Minas Borboudakis ( Munich ). The festival is funded by the Cultural Office of the City of Bamberg and the State of Bavaria ( Bavarian State Ministry for Education and Culture, Science and Art ).
