Taj Khan Karrani

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Taj Khan Karrani ( Hindi ताज ख़ान करानी Bengali তাজ খান কররানী Pashtun ; reign 1564–1566) was the founder of the Karrani dynasty , a Pashtun- Afghan dynasty of Karlan Pashtuns who ruled over Bengal , Orissa and parts of Bihar .

history

Taj was originally an employee of the Afghan ruler Sher Shah Suri . After the death of the ruler Islam Shah Suri , a period of power struggles followed in which Taj turned against the last Sur ruler, Adil Shah Suri . Adil Shah dispatched Hemu , who confronted him in a battle near Chibra-mow (Chhatramau), about 40 Kos (~ 104 km) from Agra . However, Taj escaped and also captured Adil's treasure and a troop (halka) with a hundred elephants . He fled and united his units with the troops of his brothers Imad , Sulaiman Khan and Khwaja I'lyas , who had already conquered several areas on the Ganges and at Khawaspur Tanda. The Karranis troops met Adil Shah again on the opposite bank of the Ganges, and Hemu ultimately won. Taj Khan then fled to Bengal, where he cleverly exploited internal conflicts in the region. During this time, Delhi was conquered by Humayun , the second Mughal ruler . Taj was able to take advantage of the situation in Bengal and murdered Ghiyasuddin Shah III. before conquering a large area in southeastern Bihar and West Bengal. He thus laid the foundation stone of the Karrani dynasty in Bengal, but died in the year of his victory. His younger brother Sulaiman Khan Karrani succeeded him.
