In 1996 he released his first single Dokusai (Eng .: monopolize) , which found many fans. Later that year he really got into business with Heart of Sword - Yoake Mae , the third ending of Rurouni Kenshin . He also contributed two songs each to the anime series Gundam Seed ( Invoke , Meteor ) and Gundam Seed Destiny ( ignited , vestige ).

Life

Takanori Nishikawa decided to become a musician back in middle school. He dropped out of high school to try his luck in Tokyo . His first band, Luis-Mary , only existed for three years (1990-1993).

In 1996 he made his debut as a solo artist under the name "TMRevolution", short for " T akanori M akes R evolution". He was supported by Akio Inoue, who wrote the lyrics, and Daisuke Asakura , who was already a well-known producer back then and who arranged the songs. On May 13, 1996, TMR's debut single, Dokusai ~ monopolize , was released on the Antinos Records label . At the end of the same year, the title Heart of Sword ~ Yoake mae was used as the third ending of the popular anime Rurouni Kenshin , which made him known internationally. In 1998 the album Triple Joker was released, which gave him the big breakthrough. In addition to numerous top 10 hits, it also contained the first No. 1, High Pressure . The album was sold over 2 million times.

In 1999 the special project "The end of genesis TMRevolution turbo type D" was started with Daisuke Asakura. During this time Asakura and Nishikawa produced the lesser known album Suit Season , which contains the titles Kagerō , Gekkō , and Setsugen , as well as numerous instrumentals. In 2001 TMR released the album Coordinate , which contained the Gundam Seed Opening Invoke and the insert song Meteor . It is the first album that was officially sold in the USA under Tofu Records. With the Gundam songs and his debut in America, the number of his international fans quickly increased.

In 2003 and 2004 he performed live at the Otakon ( Baltimore ) and PMX ( Anaheim ) conventions . The album Seventh Heaven , which followed in 2004 , was also successfully published in Japan and the USA. The title Zips was used for a music video by Gundam Seed. With Web of Night , the opening for Spider-Man 2 , he proved that TMRevolution can not only produce theme songs for anime . The song exists in Japanese and English versions. Both can be found on the album Vertical Infinity , which also contains the opening Ignited by Gundam Seed Destiny . The Oricon no. 1 Ignited was followed a little later by the single Vestige , the Gundam Seed Destiny insert song.

On January 1, 2006, UNDER: COVER was released, a self-cover album, with the track list being determined in a fan event. On May 13, 2006, Takanori Nishikawa celebrated his tenth anniversary as a band. A short time later the Best of Billion appeared with all previous singles and the corresponding DVD.

On December 6, 2006, he made his debut as a member and singer of the band Abingdon Boys School (abs for short), which contributed the opening of the anime D.Gray-man with Innocent Sorrow .

Further information

Takanori Nishikawa has headed the DIESEL Corporation since 1998 , which includes a promotion office for unknown talent, the TURBO fan club and the DEFRÖCK fashion brand . The associated store Babelfish is located in the Ebisu district of Tokyo. However, the production was interrupted by the tenth anniversary and the new band Abingdon Boys School .

He was also active as a seiyū for the anime series Rurouni Kenshin (Orochi no Ken), Gundam Seed (Miguel Aiman) and Gundam Seed Destiny (Haine Westenfluss). The name Haine Westenfluss is made up of his old nickname from the times of his first band Luis-Mary and his normal surname. Nishikawa means west ( 西 ) and river ( ).

In 2006 TMRevolution celebrated its 10th band anniversary, which is why two special projects were carried out with Universal Studios Japan. One on May 13th (the actual anniversary) and September 19th (Nishikawa's birthday). In the latter, he performed together with the Peter Pan Neverlands show group.

In 2007 Takanori appeared again in a musical after an eight-year hiatus. He plays J. Pierrepont Finch , the main character of the Broadway musical How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying . The host is Fuji TV . Performances are planned from April 21 to May 26 in Tokyo, Osaka and Nagoya .
