Tamás Pető (born June 8, 1974 in Ajka ) is a former Hungarian football player . The midfielder was a Hungarian international .

He began his career in 1992 at Veszprém FC in NB I. , with whom he was relegated in 1993. At the beginning of 1995 he moved to the first division club Győri ETO FC . After a year he went to Videoton FC and in 1997 finally to Újpest Budapest . With Újpest he became Hungarian champion in 1998 and reached the cup final. In qualifying for the 1998/99 Champions League, Újpest lost to Sturm Graz , so the club took part in the 1998/99 UEFA Cup , where they were eliminated in the first round. The championship could not be defended in 1999 with third place. After three years he left the club and in 2000 went to Verbroedering Geel in Belgium. There he only had two missions and returned to Hungary to Vasas Budapest . With Vasas he survived qualifying for the 2000/01 UEFA Cup , but where they lost to AEK Athens in the first round .

After the season he moved to NAC Breda in the Dutch honor division . In 2002 he reached sixth place with Breda. In the following UEFA Intertoto Cup 2002 , the club was eliminated in the third round. The next year Breda finished fourth. In the 2003/04 UEFA Cup , however, the club was eliminated in the first round against Newcastle United . In February 2004, Pető was tested positive for a nandrolone metabolite during the doping control after the cup game against PSV Eindhoven and was banned from playing 20 games. He was under contract with Breda until 2007, but the club no longer played with them. Then he went back to Hungary to his old club Újpest and after a brief stint at Lombard Pápa , he ended his career in 2008.

Pető was called up to the Hungarian national team a total of 14 times between 1998 and 2002.
