Taman Negara is a national park in Malaysia . The name Taman Negara is Malay and means "National Park".
With its 130 million year old tropical jungle, the Taman Negara is home to the oldest forest area on earth. Under the influence of ice ages , climate variability or changes in sea levels , many parts of the world have changed, but on the Malay Peninsula , the ratios have remained relatively stable and the animal - and plant life could develop without major disturbances and persist.
history
Since 1938/39 the three states of Pahang, Kelantan and Terengganu have formed the 4343 km² King George V. - National Park , the oldest in Malaysia. They passed largely similar laws that placed the jungle under protection. The Malay Peninsula , in the center of which the park is located, is home to very old and therefore particularly species-rich tropical forests.

Landscape and wildlife
The climate is tropical all year round, with high humidity . In the central region the area is criss-crossed by mountains, on the edge it is hilly. Numerous rivers have their source in the mountain regions. At 2187 meters, Gunung Tahan is the highest. In the south some rivers flow into the brown colored Sungai Tembeling , the largest river system on the peninsula, the course of which also forms part of the border.
Numerous large animal species such as the Asian elephant , leopard , wild boar , deer and monkey can be found in the reserve . These include animals threatened with extinction such as the Malaysia tiger and the black-backed tapir . The pearl peacock occurs almost exclusively in this national park on the Malay Peninsula. Over 600 bird species and 1000 different butterflies were counted. Termites , spiders , beetles and other insects live in great diversity in the nature reserve.
Infrastructure
Except for a few Orang Asli settlements, the area is uninhabited. In Kuala Tahan there is a Firstclass- tropics - Hotel and small bungalows, mainly for backpackers . There the dark, humus- enriched Sungai Tahan flows into the Sungai Tembeling.
The composer Victor Lopez named a composition "Ghosts of the Taman Negara" (Geister des Taman Negara).
