Tan (state)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The State of Tan ( 郯 國  /  郯 国 , Tánguó ) was a small feudal principality during the spring and autumn annals in the area of Tancheng County ( Kreis ) in what is now the east Chinese province of Shandong in China. It was destroyed by Yue State at the beginning of the Warring States Period .

The site of the ancient capital of Tan State ( 郯 国 故城 , Tanguo gucheng ) in the north of Tancheng County has been on the list of monuments of the People's Republic of China (6-119) since 2006 .

The state must not be confused with the Chinese state of Tan ( 谭 国  /  譚 國 , Tánguó ), which has the same name but is spelled differently and which was located in the area of today's city of Zhangqiu , also in Shandong Province .
