Tan Ruiwu ( Chinese譚 瑞 午 / 谭 瑞 午, Pinyin Tán Ruìwǔ ; born June 30, 1983 in Shenyang, Liaoning ) is a Croatian table tennis player of Chinese origin. He was European champion in doubles in 2013 and vice-European champion in doubles and with the Croatian team in 2007 .

Career

From an early age, Tan Ruiwu played excellent table tennis in his native China. In 2004 he came to Croatia, where he played at the table tennis club STK Večernji list from Zagreb . He later took on Croatian citizenship.

As a 15-year-old he took part in the World Youth Championships in Moscow , where he won the final against the eventual Olympic champion Ryu Seung Min . He was once a Chinese champion with his home club. In the juniors he won the Asian Championship.

For his new home country he won two silver medals at the 2007 European Championships in Belgrade, in doubles with Lucjan Błaszczyk from Poland and in the team competition with the Croatian team. 2012 Tan Ruiwu became vice European champion in singles; in the final he lost to Timo Boll . In 2013 he became European double champion with Poland's Wang Zeng Yi . In the final they defeated the Austrian defending champions Robert Gardos / Daniel Habesohn .

German Bundesliga

Tan Ruiwu played in the German Bundesliga for several years . In 1999 he was signed by SV Plüderhausen . In 2006 he moved from the Croatian club STK Večernji list Zagreb to Müller Würzburger Hofbräu , and in 2008 to TTC Frickenhausen . When he took on the Saudi Arabian club Al Ittihad Jeddah against the rules in 2010, for which Frickenhausen was almost punished with a point deduction, Frickenhausen resigned him without notice.
