The Tanji is a small river in the West African state of Gambia .
geography
The Tanji has its source in the West Coast region of Gambia near the town of Yundum . From there it flows with a length of 19 kilometers to the west until it into the Atlantic Ocean flows . The mouth is at the westernmost point of the Gambia; the tanji is about 85 meters wide here. Before that, it passes the town of Tanji north and is bridged by the Tanji Bridge .
A lagoon about two kilometers long , which extends in a northerly direction parallel to the coast, lies near the mouth.
natural reserve
The estuary of the river, with its mangrove forest on the shore in front of the lagoon and together with the small archipelago of Bijol Islands, is part of the Tanji Bird Reserve, established in 1993 .
