The Tanjil River is a river in Gippsland in the Australian state of Victoria .

It rises about eight kilometers northeast of the small town of Hill End at an altitude of 202  m at the confluence of the Tanjil River East Branch and Tanjil River West Branch . The eastern source river is 28.3 km long and rises west of Mount Baw Baw at an altitude of 1520 m. The western source river rises south of the small town Tanjil Bren at an altitude of 677 m and reaches the source of the Tanjil River after 28.2 km.

The Tanjil River flows south and crosses below the Mount Tanjil the on 153  m lying Blue Rock Lake , a reservoir, which as an additional reservoir for the power plants of the Latrobe Valley used. After 34.3 km north of Moe, the river flows into Lake Narracan at an altitude of 53  m , through which the Latrobe River flows.

On its way it takes up the two streams coming from the east, Russell Creek and Boggy Creek.
