Tapetum (plant)
A tapetum 's botany a single- or multi-layer fabric plasma rich cells on the inner wall of sporangia of fern plants and the pollen sacs of seed plants , which serves for the diet of the spores or pollen grains.
The spores can be nourished by secretion (secretion tapetum), as is the case, for example, with club moss plants . On the other hand, the cell walls of the tapetum cells can also dissolve and fuse, so that the protoplast that is formed can be distributed amoeboidly between the pollen grains (periplasmodial tapetum ). This can be found, for example, in horsetail .
