The Tarabosh ( Albanian also Taraboshi and Mali i Tabaroshit ) is 593  m above sea level. A. high mountain in northern albania . It forms the southeastern end of the long Rumija Mountains, which are mostly in Montenegro , on the southwestern shore of Lake Shkodra and is in the immediate vicinity of the city of Shkodra . Although the Tarabosh is not the highest point, it is usually used to describe the whole mountain range and Albanian part of the Rumija; at 651  m above sea level A. is the Mali i Golishit ( 42 ° 3 '  N , 19 ° 25'  O ) significantly higher.

The Tarabosh rises as a bar from the coastal plain of northern Albania between Lake Shkodra and the Adriatic Sea . At its eastern end the mountain range breaks off abruptly at Mali i Bajrakut ( 388  m above sea level ). The Buna , which drains Lake Shkodra, has dug an incision here. On the other bank of the river rises the approximately 130-meter-high Rozafa castle hill, which is joined by a chain of other smaller hills that extends south from Shkodra to the foothills of the Albanian Alps .

During the turmoil of the Balkan Wars in 1912 and 1913, Tarabosh was the scene of fierce fighting between Montenegrins and Serbs on the one hand and Ottoman troops on the other. Back then, the Turks still used Rozafa Castle as a military fortress. The castle could be shot at from the Tarabosh and the bridges over Buna and Drin controlled. According to historical accounts, there were also fortified structures on the Tarabosh at that time. Trenches, some of which could also come from the communist era, can still be seen today on satellite images.

Today only large transmitter systems are noticed at the top. There is also a drivable path to there. Otherwise the upper part of the mountain is very barren and hardly overgrown. On the southern slopes, at an altitude of around 300  m, there are various springs, in each of which there were also small villages. The north side is much drier. The only two villages Shiroka and Zogaj are located directly on the lake shore.

In communist Albania, a brand of cigarettes from Shkodra bore the name of the mountain.
