The film takes place in a futuristic Russia. The marriage of the Minister of Natural Resources, Viktor, who calls himself the Tsar of the Mountains , and his wife Soja has lost its passion. Her brother Mitja is a successful television presenter. Together with the policeman and horse jockey Nikolaj, they make their way to an abandoned astrophysical complex in the Asian steppe. In the remote place called Type B Municipal Settlement , they meet Taja and Anna, go to the research facility and achieve the state of eternal youth .

The protagonists experience an increasing brutality of their characters in the further course. Wiktor tries in vain to revive the relationship with his wife Soja, instead projects his emotions onto Taja and experiences a personal change that extends to violence, abuse of power and alcohol. Soja feels drawn to Nikolaj. She accompanies him on a police operation. Both slide into a spiral of violence and passion. Mitja's television presentations are becoming increasingly provocative. After letting candidates drink his own blood, he loses his job. Taja stopped her aging process 30 years ago and is meeting her former partner again.
