Taurus is a Brazilian company based in São Leopoldo near Porto Alegre . Well-known areas of the company are:

Taurus Armas (weapons), Taurus Forjados (steel processing), Taurus Capacetes (protective helmets), Taurus Wotan (mechanical engineering), Taurusplast (plastics production), Taurus International (weapons division USA), Famastil (tools, gardening equipment). Originally a tool manufacturer, the company now produces firearms , metal parts, protective vests , helmets and other products.

history

The company was founded in 1939. In 1941 the first revolver, the model 38101SO, was made. Taurus has been exporting revolvers to the United States since 1968 . In the 1970s, Smith and Wesson acquired 54 percent of the company, which enabled a technology transfer from Smith and Wesson to Taurus. Much of the design of the Smith and Wesson revolver was carried over to Taurus revolver (ex .: Model 66).

In 1974 the Italian arms manufacturer Beretta won an order for the Brazilian army. He set up a factory in São Paulo to manufacture the Beretta 92 . After fulfilling the order, Beretta sold the plant to Forjas Taurus in 1980 , which has since produced the PT92 and its further development, the PT99 .

In order to better reach the US market, Taurus founded the subsidiary Taurus USA in Miami in 1984 (or 82) .

In the early 1990s, Taurus exported 230,000 pistols a year to the United States.

In 2015 the manager Marco Aurélio Salvany took over the company. He closed two plants and concentrated production in São Leopoldo. In addition, many new weapon models have been introduced in order to reach the American arms buyer.

Products

The main focus of the company's activities is the manufacture of pistols with steel frames and polymer housings, the manufacture of a wide range of revolvers from caliber .22 lfB to revolvers of the super magnum class such as the Taurus Raging Bull in caliber .454 Casull . Rifles and submachine guns are also manufactured especially for the police and the military, mainly in Brazil.

The company gives a lifetime guarantee on all firearms manufactured. For several years now, every revolver has been supplied with a locking mechanism that allows the weapon to be blocked completely.
