Geography and climate

The landscape is dominated by the savannah , but the Rio Corubal flowing through it provides for a comparatively lush flora, especially the area of Complexo Dulombi, Boé e Tchetche , which today is one of the nature reserves of Guinea-Bissau and from which two national parks will emerge.

The average annual temperature is about 25  ° C . During the day the temperatures are usually between 30 and 33 ° C, at night between 18 and 23 ° C.

history

In the course of the Portuguese colonial war , which lasted from 1963 to 1974 and was particularly intense in Guinea-Bissau, the Portuguese army withdrew from this area in early February 1969 after a siege by the PAIGC independence movement . 47 Portuguese soldiers from the CCaç1790 hunter company died when they crossed the Rio Corubal on February 6, 1969 in Tchetché ( Cheche ) and the ferry capsized . The episode remained unforgettable and has remained the subject of documentaries in Portugal to this day.

economy

The region is considered the poorest part of the country. Agriculture and especially animal husbandry (cattle, goats), plus fishing in the Rio Corubal, essentially make up the self-sufficiency economy.
