Te Karaka is a village in the Gisborne District on the North Island of New Zealand .
Origin of name
The village is named after a native tree species, the Karaka .
geography
The village is located around 25 km north-northwest of Gisborne in a bend of the Waipaoa River . 1 km north-northeast of empties Waihora River in the Waipaoa River and 2 km west flowing Waikohu River to. The New Zealand State Highway 2 passes the village on its south side and connects it directly with Gisborne .

In the 2013 census, the town had 480 inhabitants, 12.1% fewer than in the 2006 census.
