Teleiopsis terebinthinella is a butterfly ( moth ) fromthe palm moth family (Gelechiidae).

features

The moths reach a wingspan of 17 to 20 millimeters. The labial palps are dark brown and have two lighter rings on each segment. The head, thorax and tegulae are dark brown with many scales pale at the tip . The front wings are gray-brown and marked with three distinctive, transverse rows of black and orange, protruding scales. The root field is blackish. A light brown transverse band runs through the first third of the wing, in the area of ​​the wing tip ( apex ) there are two longitudinal black stripes. The hind wings are gray-brown.

Occurrence

Teleiopsis terebinthinella is native to southern and southeastern Europe . There is also evidence from Turkey and the Middle East . It occurs at altitudes of up to 1600 meters. The species is not represented on the Iberian Peninsula or in France .

Way of life

The larvae feed on turpentine pistachio ( Pistacia terebinthus ) and spice sumac ( Rhus coriaria ), where they spin the leaves together.

Flight and caterpillar times

The larvae live in May. The moths fly from June to July, they are nocturnal and are attracted by artificial light sources.
