Teles (family name)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Teles is a Portuguese family name .

Origin and meaning

The name Teles is the last name form of the Portuguese male given name Telo. It is traced back to two medieval families: Meneses and Silva, who descend from a Don Telo, possibly Telo Perez, 1st señor de Menezes (1150-1230) and since then the names Teles de Meneses (also in the variation Telo de Menezes) and Teles da Silva lead. The coats of arms of these two families are identical: a helmet and a lion can be seen.
