The Temburong Bridge ( English Temburong Bridge , Malay Jambatan Temburong , Jawi جمبتن تمبوروڠ ) is a bridge in Brunei . Since its completion in March 2020, it has connected the Brunei-Muara district around the capital Bandar Seri Begawan ( 4 ° 55 ′ 37.7 ″  N , 115 ° 0 ′ 49.5 ″  E ) with the Temburong district ( 4 ° 50 ′ 48 , 2 ″  N , 115 ° 6 ′ 45.9 ″  E ) over Brunei Bay .

The construction costs are given as 1.4 billion US dollars , which makes the bridge the most expensive transport infrastructure project in Brunei. The bridge was built by the Chinese state-owned company China State Construction Engineering Corporation .

background

A connection between the two districts of Brunei-Muara and Temburong was previously only possible by ship. Temburong is a Brunei exclave in Malaysia . The bridge replaces entry and exit procedures in the Malay Limbang .

Traffic planning

A 3.6-kilometer road connection with two tunnels is to connect Bandar Seri Begawan to the new bridge structure. The bridge leads with a 14.5 kilometer long viaduct over Brunei Bay to Temburong. In Temburong, an 11.8 kilometer long road with two further bridges is to connect to Jalan Labu . Other sources speak of a viaduct length of 18 km and another 12 km on land.
