Teniel Campbell (born September 23, 1997 ) is a cyclist from Trinidad and Tobago who competes in road and track races . In 2019 she became the first female cyclist in her country to win medals in an official international competition.

Athletic career

In 2015 Teniel Campbell became her country's junior champion in the singles pursuit . In the following year she won the two national titles on the road in individual time trials and road races of the elite, as well as at the Caribbean championships in Martinique .

At the Central America and Caribbean Games 2018 (CAC) in Barranquilla , Colombia , she won a bronze medal in both scratch and single pursuit on the track. A few days later she won gold in the road race at the CAC as the first female athlete in her country; She finished fourth in the individual time trial. She was sixth in the Flanders Diamond Tour . In 2018 she started in the individual time trial of the Road World Championships in Innsbruck and was 49th of 51 starters.

On August 1, 2018 Teniel Campbell received a contract as a stagiaire with the Team Cogeas-Mettler Pro Cycling Team . This made her the first female athlete from Trinidad and Tobago to compete for a UCI team. In April 2019 she won a stage of the Tour of Thailand as a member of the UCI WCC team and finished second in the overall ranking. A little later she became the U23 Pan American champion in individual time trials and road races; she finished fifth in the elite time trial and third in the road race. At the 2019 Pan American Games in Lima , she won the silver medal in time trials and road races, making her the first female cyclist from her country to win a medal at an official international event. In 2020 she finished fifth in the Omloop van het Hageland at the start of the season .

Honors

In December 2018, Teniel Campbell was awarded the Future is female award from the national sports association in her home country , and in 2019 she was named “Sportswoman of the Year”.
