from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Teodoro Obiang Nguema "Teodorín" Mangue (born June 25, 1969 in Akoakam-Esangui ) has been the first Vice President of Equatorial Guinea since 2016 . He is the son of Teodoro Obiang Nguema Mbasogo , the President of Equatorial Guinea and his first wife, Constancia Okomo. Teodorín Nguema Obiang is considered to be the potential successor to his father, who suffers from advanced prostate cancer . He is the owner of Equatorial Guinea's only private radio station, Radio Asonga, and director of the state television broadcaster TV Asonga .

lifestyle

Teodoro, who is officially Minister for Agriculture and Forestry in his father's government, lives most of the time in Paris , London , Rio de Janeiro and Malibu . He drew international media criticism for spending a weekend in South Africa 10,000,000 rand on champagne , condominium renovations, a black Bentley Arnage , a cream Bentley Continental R and a Lamborghini Murciélago , possessions that may be foreclosed for failing to pay a South African businessman. US law enforcement agencies believe that much of his fortune comes from corruption deals with Equatorial Guinea's oil and gas reserves .

Teodorín Obiang's foreign property includes two houses in South Africa worth 50,000,000 rand. Since 2006 he has owned a property in Malibu with ocean views, his own golf course , eight bathrooms and several garages valued at 35,000,000 US dollars , a 460 m² house in the affluent 16th arrondissement of Paris , and the hip-hop music TNO Entertainment label . In 2008 he owned one of the few examples of the Bugatti Veyron 16.4 ( valued at 1,100,000 euros ) and a Maserati MC 12 for 700,000 euros. Between 2004 and 2006, he spent $ 43.45 million on his lavish lifestyle, more than the $ 43 million the Equatorial Guinea government spent on education in 2005.

Money laundering and corruption investigations

France

Due to a lawsuit by Transparency France , proceedings have been ongoing in France since 2008 against the three African presidents Denis Sassou Nguesso (Republic of the Congo (Brazzaville)) Omar Bongo Ondimba (Gabon) and his father, Teodoro Obiang Nguema Mbasogo, as well as persons close to them. In the so-called “biens acquis mal” proceedings, the French prosecution accuses Teodorín Obiang of having embezzled public funds of around 110 million euros during his tenure as Minister of Agriculture from 2004 to 2011. The French judiciary has confiscated clothes, jewelry, works of art, real estate and luxury cars worth 200 million francs. The trial opened in June 2017 and ended in October of the same year with a conditional prison sentence and a fine.

Switzerland

Teodorín Obiang has been in Geneva regularly for years . In 2011, France submitted a request for legal assistance to Switzerland for money laundering, misappropriation of public funds and corruption. The federal prosecutor opened a criminal investigation against him five years later. The Geneva public prosecutor's office confiscated eleven luxury cars on October 31, 2016, including a Koenigsegg One and a Bugatti Veyron , shortly before he was able to take them out of the country using a transport plane. In the following two months, she confiscated 13 other vehicles. They were foreclosed on for $ 27 million in September 2019.

Attempted coup in 2004 and question of succession

After his involvement in the failed coup attempt by Nick du Toit , Simon Mann and Mark Thatcher in March 2004, he threatened his uncle, Armengol Ondo Nguema, with killing him for doing business with du Toit's private security and military company Triple Options . Armengol had previously opposed Teodorín's claims to the presidency.

It has been reported that he is about to be named Vice President of Equatorial Guinea, as the constitution allows him to succeed his father. Teodorín is said to be interested in taking over his younger brother Gabriel's position in the oil industry.
