The Terberg Group BV is a Dutch manufacturer of industrial trucks and special trucks. The company Terberg Spezialfahrzeuge produces freight yard, ro-ro and terminal tractors , swap bodies , road-rail vehicles , hook lift vehicles as well as transportable forklifts and tippers under the Kinglifter brand for the market segments of industry, ports, airports, logistics centers, construction, mining and tunneling, road / Rail and more.
It was founded in 1869 as a forge in Benschop , where the company still has its headquarters today. In 1973 the first terminal tractor was built for the port of Rotterdam . The German head office is in Hamburg , with further branches in Bochum, Bad Rappenau, Eisenach and Munich.
History and Numbers
The company was founded in 1869 by Johannes Bernadus Terberg as a blacksmith's shop in Benschop near Utrecht . In 1913, the company specialized in horse-drawn carriages , the sale and maintenance of bicycles and the production of household appliances and agricultural machinery.
After the Second World War , disused jeeps of the US Army were modified for civil agricultural use and three-axle trucks were manufactured for road construction.
- 1950s : the increasing conversion of chassis for higher payloads leads to the establishment of the business units "Terberg-Technik" and "Terberg-Specials", in which commercial vehicles of all kinds are modified for a wide variety of purposes to this day.
- 1966 : Establishment of the Terberg commercial vehicle factory with new designs
- 1972 : Start of the export business, u. a. to Belgium, Germany, Ghana, Iran, Egypt, Dubai and Saudi Arabia
- 1973 : Start of production of terminal tractors
- 1980s: Production of special vehicles such as 8x8 tube transporters; The core business is the construction of tipper chassis and special tractors for ports and other goods handling centers
- 2007 : Founding of the German branch in Hamburg, later others in Bochum, Bad Rappenau, Eisenach and Munich
- 2012 : Cooperation with Zagro road-rail vehicles
- 2013 : Terberg is the first European manufacturer to develop an electric tractor in series production.
- 2015 : Kinglifter is affiliated to Terberg Spezialfahrzeuge.
For the company's 150th anniversary in 2019, the company was awarded the honorary title of purveyor to the court by the Dutch royal family .
